Fiirst post from my iPhone
Just a test post from my new toy.
THE Willie Smith Video continued…
As you remember, last month I (re)found the infamous video of Willie Smith from the 1990 US Track & Field Championships and uploaded it to YouTube [if you haven't seen the video before, watch it now]
Well… this morning, I got a message from someone claiming to be Willie’s son. It reads…
Miketown,
I know YouTube is basically to make fun of stupid and idiotic events/ people, and trust me I love looking at YouTube too, but it can be really hurtful when it’s your own family. I’m not trying to stop you from posting anything, and I’m defiantly not trying to start anything with you, but just watching this post, literally makes my stomach turn.
Willie J. Smith III, the “bad …. commentator,” is my father. I was about 6 years old when this happened, and trust me watching it on YouTube, like watching it on that day 18 years ago, still makes me hurt badly for my father. He is a three time Olympian, an Olympic Gold Medalist (1984 Los Angeles), a NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Champion, a SEC Track and Field Champion, and graduate of Auburn University (1978).
Yes, this clip is probably hilarious to most people, because he does completely mess up but if you knew him, honestly, watching this would make you feel hurt for him.
I’m asking you to please, please take down this video. (I’m actually begging you.) I know I can’t make you do it, but I would truly appreciate it if you did! I would just like to spare my father, and the rest of our family, from re- living this humiliating moment in time. Thanks so much!
What would you do? Please comment.
Dear Kirsten
Happy 30th!!!
Heading to the Final 4
Sure, it’s 7 and 1/2 months away but I got a letter this weekend from the NCAA that I was selected in the lottery for a pair of tickets to the Final Four in 2009. This includes tickets to the 2 games on Saturday and the National Championship that will be on Monday. Now… who wants to go with?
Getting Tickets for the Patriots/Seahawks Game
Single game tickets for the Seattle Seahawks went on sale at 10a this past monday. After chatting w/ Jon, Ben, & Tony we were all ready to get multiple tickets for the game.
At 9:55 I started clicking… The tickets you have selected are not available or on sale yet…
Then at 10:00 my request for 6 tickets in the $47 level went through- No luck…
6 at any price? Nothing.
4 at any price?Heck no.
2 at any price? No sir.
I finally was able to secure two individual tickets for the game. Sec 343, Row DD. Sec 344 Row I.
In short… I’ll be at Qwest Field when the Patriots come to play the Seahawks for the Sunday Night Game on December 7th.
Flights for the past year
Here is a map of my flights from the past year…

100 Miles- Dumbest Idea EVER
The title says it all.
My August Challenge
Over the past 3 years I’ve been consistently averaging about driving 500 miles a month. I don’t really drive that much, and I’d even go out on a limb and say that 95% of that is on the weekend. But I do make wasteful trips to the supermarket or the dry cleaners or back downtown after work (when I could just stay).
So I am challenging myself to only drive 100 miles in the month of August and I know it is going to be difficult. Thrown in with the fact of planning my trips in advance, I feel that my feet, my bike, and my bus pass can be leveraged even more to make this more of a reality.
My Ground Rules
1. 100 Miles August 1st through August 30th
2. This is going to involve any driving or riding that I do in a car. I’m considering it cheating to say “Kirsten you drive so it doesn’t count against my mileage…”
a. I’m torn on how to consider carpooling- I am thinking that I will not consider those miles if the person does not go out of their way for me by more than 2 total blocks.
3. Bus rides do not count
4. The drive to Mason Lake for Matt & Brina’s party will not count.
Why am I doing this? I don’t know. Gas is getting cheaper so it’s not an effort to save money. The environment? Sure, maybe- even though I already do a damn good job at trying to minimize my driving. I just think it’s an effort to see if I can do it. I’ll try and keep my escapades and driving here.
What do you think? Will I be able to do it? If not, when will I “fail”?
Oh, and this is a chart of the price of gas (87 unleaded) at the station near my house. It’s for my dad…
