Over the past 3 years I’ve been consistently averaging about driving 500 miles a month. I don’t really drive that much, and I’d even go out on a limb and say that 95% of that is on the weekend. But I do make wasteful trips to the supermarket or the dry cleaners or back downtown after work (when I could just stay). So I am challenging myself to only drive 100 miles in the month of August and I know it is going to be difficult.

Thrown in with the fact of planning my trips in advance, I feel that my feet, my bike, and my bus pass can be leveraged even more to make this more of a reality.

My Ground Rules
1.	100 Miles August 1st through August 30th
2.	This is going to involve any driving or riding that I do in a car. I’m considering it cheating to say “Kirsten you drive so it doesn’t count against my mileage…”
a.	I’m torn on how to consider carpooling- I am thinking that I will not consider those miles if the person does not go out of their way for me by more than 2 total blocks.
3.	Bus rides do not count
4.	The drive to Mason Lake for Matt & Brina’s party will not count.

Why am I doing this? I don’t know. Gas is getting cheaper so it’s not an effort to save money. The environment? Sure, maybe- even though I already do a damn good job at trying to minimize my driving. I just think it’s an effort to see if I can do it. I’ll try and keep my escapades and driving here.

What do you think? Will I be able to do it? If not, when will I “fail”?

Oh, and this is a chart of the price of gas (87 unleaded) at the station near my house. It’s for my dad…
