New Countries in 2009
I think I set a new record for countries visited this year.
Here are the new ones…

Well I Survived my first Triathlon
Yeah… I thought I was prepared for the swim- I wasn’t.
Seriously, all of those guys just flailing around freaked me out. Throw on top of the fact that it took me about a quarter of a mile to get used to wearing that swim cap and I was behind from the start.
I need to be honest and admit that swimming twice to make sure that I could indeed swim a half mile isn’t true training. So who knows, maybe next year???
I covered the swim in 20 minutes, the bike in 42, and the run in 30. Yes… 30 minutes to run 5k.
Still, I managed to finish 12th in my age group- which is embarassing, but oh well. Next year…
Should that last statement end with an exclamation point or a question mark?
Regardless, I am so proud of Kirsten who completely rocked the HALF IRONMAN. That’s a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike, and a half marathon. WOW!

That Feeling is Back
It’s been over 10 years since I’ve had that entire feeling throughout my body of nervousness.
The feeling is very similar to my college days when we were at a regatta and would wake up only to have to wait 8 hours to race. At least in those days, i knew what to expect- a 2000 meter race was something I knew. Knew what to expect; when to expect the pain and the tough parts. Knew how to get through it. Today? A swim, bike, and run… NO clue. Oh well!
Thankfully, today’s tri starts in a little more than an hour so I don’t need to deal with it for long.
Back!
After training from Budapest to Vienna and then to Frankfurt, THEN flying from Frankfurt to Philly to Seattle, I can say that I am now home.
Vienna and Budapest were fantastic places to visit. The time didn’t let me get to Bratislava, but with talking with other travelers, all I missed was a castle. That gives me a reason to go back!
I will try and get the pictures up ASAP (at least the good ones).
